Rep. Martha Roby in 140 Characters or Less

by Cliff Sims
Role140 Characters or Less, Martha Roby

“…In 140 Characters or Less” is a new feature on Yellowhammer Politics. We’ll be interviewing politicians, insiders, activists and other notable figures — with the catch being that their answers must be in 140 characters or less. When possible, we conduct the interviews in real-time on Twitter — then post them on YH when they’re complete. (Follow us on Twitter)

Today, we tweeted with U.S. Rep. Martha Roby from Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. We discussed Romney’s candidacy, legislating in a GOP-controlled House while there’s a Democrat-controlled White House & Senate, what it’s like for a freshmen in the U.S. House, the Bush tax cuts, & more.

Roby was elected to her first time in the House in 2010 when she beat incumbent Democrat Bobby Bright by just under 5,000 votes. She now serves on the Committees on Agriculture, Armes Services, and Education and the Workforce.

@YHPolitics He must continue to draw a clear contrast between his record as a job creator and President Obama’s record as a job killer

@YHPolitics I like Rep. Ryan, although there are other many great candidates with strong conservative records that appeal to Independents

@YHPolitics My two trips to Afghanistan. To talk with troops on the ground and hear their stories was a special experience.

@YHPolitics It’s tough, but we have to keep doing what we know is right and standing up for the people who sent us to DC.

— Rep. Martha Roby(@RepMarthaRoby) July 26, 2012

@YHPolitics A lot – just stand strong for what you believe in.We were sent to DC to give a fresh perspective and the leadership knows that

@YHPolitics Hard to name just a few but I’ll try… @repcorygardner@HerreraBeutler @RepKinzinger @RepReneeEllmers@benquayle

@YHPolitics POTUS shouldn’t play politics with a tax increase. Why raise taxes when Americans are struggling? Must act on extension soon.

— Rep. Martha Roby(@RepMarthaRoby) July 26, 2012

@YHPolitics It’s a responsible bill that cuts over $35B. It includes my amend. to block $$$ for illegal aliens. I hope it comes to the floor

Democrats DO want to extend tax cuts. Actually, they voted to do exactly that today in the Senate. Of course, these are middle class cuts that help 99% of Americans. The GOP House won’t accept the plan though because they’re beholden to the 1% of Americans who wouldn’t get a tax break in this plan. THE FILTHY RICH.

I’ll simply refer you to r.s.’s comment above. The Democrats’ bill is a tax RAISE. Letting tax rates stay the same is NOT a tax break. If you want to raise taxes on the job creators in this country, then we’ll just have to disagree on that. But don’t act like they’re giving a tax CUT to ANYONE.

Glad to see Martha publicly voicing support for Paul Ryan like this. His plan is the only one on the table that can walk America back from the ledge.

Another well presented interview, Cliff.

The dirtbag democrats are trying to claim the Bush cuts are still “cuts.” Letting taxes stay the same is not a tax cut. Meanwhile, they want to RAISE taxes on anyone creating a job in this country. And they’ll judge their success by how much they can expand welfare enrollment. Disgusting. I’m not the biggest fan of GOP leadership in the House and Senate but at least their holding the line on the really egregious issues coming out of the socialist policy factories that currently occupy the west wing of the white house and the Hart Senate office building.

I know a lot of Tea Party folks supported Barber in the primary, but I think we can all admit we probably got that one wrong. We’ve got a phenomenal freshmen Representative in D.C. Excellent work, Rep. Roby.
