Beth Myers is a long-time Romney advisor and was tapped in April to lead Romney’s search for a running mate. She was his chief of staff as Governor of Massachusettes and later the campaign manager for his 2008 presidential campaign. The Washington Post has said that Myers is “so familiar with the presumptive Republican nominee that she often speaks for him in strategy sessions at the campaign’s Boston headquarters.”
Today, she had a little fun on Twitter with “Follow Friday,” which is a weekly Friday tradition on Facebook where people tweet out who they think other people on Twitter should follow. Only…her Follow Friday suggestions include, well, the names of basically every single person you might think would be on a Romney short list for VP.
According to Buzzfeed, when a reporter asked if that’s the short list, a campaign aide replied “it’s a Friday follow.”
What do you think?
As someone who has worked in partnership with @MittRomney for years, I am honored to lead his search for a VP. #Mitt2012
Even if it is the short list, there aren’t any real surprises. And the list is long enough not to exclude any of the most often rumored candidates. I don’t think she was spilling any secrets here.
Ayotte: no, not ready for another Palin-like mistake of choosing an inexperienced player.
Pawlenty: maybe. good god he’s boring. At least we know he won’t upstage Romey.
Christie: no chance Christie plays second fiddle and no chance Romney invites him to try.
Jindal: would be brilliant. Policy credentials. Conservative bonafides. Healthcare expertise. Not overly charismatic but not a Pawlenty.
Rubio: too much of a rock star for Romney to bring him on unless he thinks he desperately needs him to win Florida.
Ryan: no chance. too polarizing.
Gingrich: come on.
Portman: viewed as the “safe” pick but too much Bush baggage in my opinion.
McDonnell: not getting as much attention but I could see Romney choosing him. Not sure he brings much to the table though in the way of electoral math or in motivating the base.
I think it’s safe to say the future VP is on that list. But there’s no way he’s serious about Santorum or Gingrich. This is also potentially a clever diversion from the London mess that the media has blown way out of proportion.
Ryan. Rubio. Jindal. But I expect Portman or Pawlenty. Nothing to hate, but nothing to get excited about… Unless it’s one of those first three I mentioned.
I would literally give him the $20,000 it takes to buy a ticket to one of his fancy fundraisers if he chose Paul Ryan. The country isn’t ready for what Newt called “Right wing social engineering.”
You’re right though. He’ll pick one of those guys who’s more boring than he is. If that’s even possible.
I Love That Song!!!
Does anybody really care? That’s one of my favorite songs by Chicago!

Rice: Never run for office. Too dangerous.
Thune: not wasting my time.
Martinez: ZZzzzzz
Santorum: now that’s funny.
