Dale Peterson Arrested for Stealing Beer, Says He “Just Had to Pee”

by Cliff Sims
Roledale peterson arrested, hoover police, Matt Murphy, matt murphy show, stealing, they don't give a rip about alabama, thugs and criminals, wal-mart

According to Dale Peterson, in October of last year he was wrongly accused of steeling two cases of beer and as a result was arrested by the Hoover Police Department.

Peterson became internet famous in 2009 when he ran for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner and one of his campaign videos went viral. In the video Peterson warns of “thugs and criminals” who “don’t give a rip about Alabama,” and points out that his opponents were “stealing yard signs in the dead of night.”

In an ironic twist, it’s now Peterson who is being accused of being a criminal.

Peterson appeared on Birmingham, Alabama talk radio program The Matt Murphy Show Thursday morning where he explained that Wal-Mart staff mistakenly thought he was attempting to steal the beer when he actually “just had to pee.” Peterson said he went into the restroom, left his beer outside, and when he reemerged, Hoover police arrested him. “I had no intention of stealing,” he explained. “The only intention I had when I crossed that line was to go pee.” Murphy shot back, “There’s video of this, Dale. You know all of this is going to come out. You don’t have to lie about this today.”

Peterson and Matt Murphy debated each other’s credibility until Murphy asked him to leave, at which point he stormed out, got in his silver Volkswagen Beetle, and sped off.

Matt Murphy’s must-hear interview with Dale Peterson can be heard below. The entire thing is worth a listen, but things really heat up around 14:45.

I didn’t know Wal-Mart’s regulations were considered law. If you pass a point of sale in a Wal-Mart then you have stolen merchandise? Usually it takes leaving the store to prove intent and no cop in his right mind would arrest anyone unless they left they store without paying. I think ol’ Dale pushed the cart out of the store without paying. What seems to be missing is the other side of the story. Maybe thesmokinggun(.)com can get the police report and post it.

In our system of law people are innocent until proven guilty. PERIOD. If the police don’t arrest people unless they are guilty, why do we have the Miranda Warning? Why do we have evidence exclusionary rules? After the trial, we can talk about it. Until then, this is just yellow, slanted journalism. the site is aptly named, YELLOW hammer

I heard the only reason Dale Peterson is so embarrassed by this story is because the beer he tried to steal was an import. BUY AMERICAN!

The moral of the story is…don’t shop at Wal-Mart. I had to laugh at Wal-Mart’s recent free national publicity on the airwaves about how they planned to hire 100,000 war veterans over the next year. Oh really? And do what, give them 30 hours a week at minimum wage? That is what WM does. I don’t know of any average worker at WM that actually gets a 40 hr week, and with the Obamacare kicking in, the odds for any getting 40 (this full time) go way down.

John WM employees are more likely to have children on Medicad, free and reduced lunch which makes WM a contributor to the high rate of poverty in this country and a contributor to the increase in the federal deficit because some many of its employees must access the welfare system to survive.

1. You have merchandise.
2. You need to pee.
3. You MUST leave the merchandise outside while you pee.
4. There is no way you could hide two cases of beer in your underwear.
5. By law, a crime is NOT committed until you LEAVE the store without paying, classic shoplifting.
6. Something is missing, surely, the Hoover PD (as I would) CANNOT have the authority to arrest in this case (no pun intended). He did not leave the store and where could he hide 2 cases of beer on his person?

Nan A says:
February 14, 2013 at 7:32 pm

I know both Dale and John. K. I cannot believe Dale would risk everything for two cases of beer. John k. Is a devout man of God. If he says it you can take it to the bank. Dale and his lovely wife arr good folks. Don’t be so anxious to run him down the roaf. What if that was your son…or brother. Oh and whyNOT a vw. Save on gas and help the planet. I have driven a vw myself..may as well laugh at me too. I still like them.

Does this mean Coyote Calhoun isn’t a real person? Wolfman Jack’s first name wasn’t Wolfman? Lots of people steal who have the means to pay. Remember Winona Ryder? Lindsey Lohan?

Also 99.9% of the police are doing a great job, but just because a person is an ex-policeman, doesn’t mean he isn’t a potential criminal. The story I could tell. Would send chills down your spine.

Like him or don’t, Dale Peterson is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. What about the constitutional guarantee of due process, and burden of proof being on the prosecution don’t some of you understand? Sheeesh.

I don’t live in Birmingham and have never heard of the Murphy Show. I don’t understand why he was being so hard-edged. I think an interviewer can be firm without being nasty. Remember the sign at the last GOP state meeting with Reagan’s 11th commandment? Mr. Peterson is innocent until proven otherwise. If John Killian likes him, he must be A-OK!

Everyone is missing the MUCH bigger picture, he stole paper towels. This problem/addiction is way bigger than the beer!!

Robert D. Ray (a/k/a Matt Murphy) is a sensationlist that does this to good people in order to make himself feel relevant – sorry Robert D. Ray (a/k/a Matt Murphy) but you can do nothing to make yourself relevant but you do a damn good job at making yourself look stupid!!

Rufus T. Firefly says:
February 14, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Robert is so relevant that he can’t even get local House member Republican Spencer Bachus to appear on his show because Robert is such an arrogant twit.

John Hand says:

Like John K said up there, the tale will be in the tape. If Dale Peterson went straight into the bathroom and upon returning to his cart, took it back into line to check out or went back into the store to continue shopping, then he is innocent. If the tape shows him coming out of the restroom and heading for the doors, that might be something else. But don’t most stores have a rule that the shoplifter must reach or exit the outside doors before they can be considered legally to be shoplifters? And I am sure, since as you leave Wal-Mart that they have those detectors you must pass through that if his beer had not been scanned as he paid for them, that the detectors would have gone off. I no longer shop at WM, but in the past, I too have gone to the restroom. I think I usually left my cart on the other side of the registers. After all, nothing to steal out of your cart on that side, right, since the items have not been scanned and paid for? If as it turns out, Peterson was attempting to steal and you ask…why? Well, I remember seeing some famous people, supposedly with money arrested for shoplifting on the news. What was that dark-haired young gal’s name who was arrested for stealing some clothes? There are many examples and some just do it for the thrill, not the cost-saving.

Rufus T. Firefly says:

Dan says:

D. Peka says:

Have to agree with Matt Hack – Matt Murphy sounds absolutely whacko! First, he confused something that happened last October with last weekend, and then he accused Peterson of being a criminal even though Peterson hadn’t even been to court on the issue! Another blatant example of how mass media including radio “interviewers” has turned completely tabloid! What a shame!

Dan says:
February 14, 2013 at 1:17 pm

Clearly, Murphy is still holding a grudge about being stiffed on his show during the last election cycle. This shows how small Murphy is. He’s no better than Dale Peterson.

I can picture Dale Peterson wearing a bathrobe in the snow holding a Meister Brau in one hand and a hose from the bowels of his RV in the other saying “Merry Christmas! The $h!tter was full!”

Matt A. Hack says:
February 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm

Matt is obviously just hacked because Dale didn’t show for a prior appearance on his show. Dale made perfect sense. Matt made no sense and cannot process direct language, apparently. I say just wait for the video. Who knows, but I see no reason to disbelieve Dale. I know of prior Walmart cases where their security team has made VERY bad calls that resulted in HUGE judgements AGAINST Walmart for acting inappropriately. Let’s just see how this comes out.

As observed before, Matt is ridiculous.

Birmingham Conservative says:
February 14, 2013 at 12:40 pm

Rufus, I do know that Clif opposed the September 18 amendment when Speaker Hubbard supported the amendment. For the record, I supported the amendment.
While I have opposed Clif on the Chairmanship, I will give ol’ Clifford credit for his good work as well

Rufus T. Firefly says:
February 14, 2013 at 11:24 am

Cliff do you know a disc jockey/morning radio host named Robert Ray?

hawk says:
February 14, 2013 at 11:24 am

Wow, never thought I would side with Dale Petterson. How can anyone listen to Matt Murphy? I think Dale Petterson is an embarrassment to the state but Murphy makes him look like the good guy.

John Killian says:
February 14, 2013 at 11:08 am

Actually, I don’t support nor do I agree with Dale on every subject, but I see NO REASON why a man with obvious means would steal two cases of beer. His story, on this matter, sounds credible.
I listened to the interview and found Dale’s answer on the canceled appearance on Matt’s show to be a plausible answer.
This is newsworthy, so I don’t fault Clif for posting this story. Having said that, I do not believe a former policeman would risk all for two cases of beer. Again, the video will clarify what happened. If I am wrong, I will stand corrected. But I do not believe Dale would steal two cases of beer from Wal Mart

Rufus T. Firefly says:
February 14, 2013 at 11:29 am

John first off Robert Ray and Cliff Sims do nothing without talking to the powers to be of the ALGOP. Dale is crazy but I don’t think he’s a thief. This story is old as staled bread so why put it out there today Cliff? Which of the Hubbard state payroll people put you up to this obvious hatchet job?

Rufus T. Firefly says:
February 15, 2013 at 8:00 pm

John my sources tell me that this story was leaked out by people close to John McMillian because Peterson is raising money to make another run for AG Commissioner. Robert D. Ray(Matt Murphy) was so unprepared that he thought the arrest had occurred over the weekend. When you listen to the interview it becomes clear that Robert was mad because Peterson stood him up for an interview. Robert comes across as a child mad because someone would dare not show up on his low rated radio show.

John Killian says:
